You probably already know that the Volvo XC60 is a beautifully designed crossover, with all of the Swedish touches and tweaks that really help Volvo shine about other European luxury carmakers. Critics applaud it for, among many other things, it's impressive cargo space, versatility and handling and powerful engine. But soon enough, they'll have yet another thing to applaud: it'll be electric.

Seriously. At the 2012 North American International Auto Show, Volvo unveiled a Plug-in hybrid variant of the XC60 that's as handsomely designed as ever. Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO, Volvo Car Corporation says, "The beauty with this plug-in hybrid technology is that you can keep all the power and capacity of your present car, combined with an even better range."¹

Many automakers have begun to take this approach to vehicle efficiency, and McLaughlin Volvo is pretty excited to see these developments taking shape for Volvo. In particular, because this is one of our favorite cars in the lineup.

Jacoby goes on to say, "The XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept features an engine from our all-new, state of the art, four-cylinder engine family. Our new four-cylinder powertrains will get performance on today's six-cylinder level...a diesel electric plug-in hybrid is coming to our European dealers this year and we are busy preparing a gasoline version for the American showrooms."²

We told you a bit about the diesel hybrid last month - and while we'd love to see something like that here in the US, it doesn't look like it's in the works just yet. In the meantime, we'll be very happy to see yet another fuel-efficient Volvo grace our showroom floors. We're not alone, either, Patty Hooley, a member of Volvos North American Dealer Council says, "The plug-in hybrid speaks both classic Volvo safety and responsibility as well as cutting edge Volvo innovation."³
