Volvo S60 T6 for 2011

The new and improved 2011 Volvo S60 adds a much more powerful engine and also more curves than any previous Volvo model to its look. The T6 adds even more features and just a tad more horsepower to the mix.

The T6 contains a Turbocharged 3.0 liter V6 with a production of 281 horses at 325 lb-ft of torque. The handling on Volvo's S60 is smooth and responsive, braking is film and strong. Volvo has implemented their new intuitive braking system, which will bring the car to a halt automatically at low speeds (under 25 - 30 mph, as tested). This will stop you from colliding with those on a bicycle or careless pedestrians.

The standard all-wheel-drive system on the S60 remains a Haldex design. As with other recent Volvos it's pre-charged to quickly transfer torque to the rear wheels as needed.

Volvo has added "corner traction control with torque vectoring" to this - the brakes are selectively applied to proactively counteract understeer. Until high limits are approached the S60 is a neutral feeling car. Activate the "sport mode" to seriously push throttle and you can select an oversteer assistant as well.

The total asking price for a 2011 S60 T6 is around $47,610 - but that's with the included $2,100 Technology Package, and you can cut down another $2,700 if you opt out of that 650-watt audio system with navigation. This brings base MSRP down to around $38,500.

Volvo To Build Small Entry Level Car

Volvo is hoping to compete with other dealerships for production on smaller, economy-style vehicles. Volvo wants to knock the socks off of customers that are in need of this type of vehicle. It plans to offer a small competitor as part of a plan to expand the automaker's line up.
Speaking in London last week, Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby said the next generation of the entry-level Volvo "will be a derivation of the C30, a Golf competitor," according to the Web site www.autocar.co.uk.

He also stated Volvo's brand positioning would shift toward "functionality and Scandinavian elegance" and away from sportiness, according to the web site.
Jacoby is driving the product assessment at Volvo, which was acquired last summer by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. of China. In the past, Volvo had been owned by Ford Motor Co. Jacoby joined Volvo in August.

Last month, Doug Speck, CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, told Automotive News that the automaker is considering a small car that targets BMW's 1 series and a compact crossover to compete with the BMW X1.

Based on Jacoby's comments, the automaker is now targeting the Golf instead of the 1 series.
Volvo wants a small crossover because "there will be more X1 counterparts in the luxury segment," Speck said at the time. Additionally, the small crossover would help fill the gaps created as Volvo discontinues station wagons in the United States, he said.

Said Speck: "The luxury station wagon segment has been on the decline over the last decade, and we have adjusted our product lineup with the XC products," Speck said.
